Anil Kumble talks about Rohit Sharma’s leadership during IPL 2013

Former India captain Anil Kumble reminisced about Rohit Sharma’s leadership during the 2013 IPL season, in which he served as Mumbai Indians’ mentor. Kumble shared his insights into Rohit’s captaincy, as it was his first season leading the franchise. Kumble emphasized that Rohit was not hesitant to express himself and that he had plenty of experience on his side. Furthermore, Kumble discussed Rohit’s leadership during the 2017 IPL season with a new team.

“He was not afraid to say what he had to say. He had plenty of experience around him and he reached out to them as well but then took his own decisions. That’s what you want from a captain. 2017 was a new team and the kind of captaincy we saw from him in terms of defending low scores, that’s when your true leadership comes out,”

Kumble said.

Kumble wants to see Rohit bat at number four

In preparation for the upcoming 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Anil Kumble expressed his desire for Rohit Sharma to bat at number four. Kumble, who was Mumbai Indians’ mentor in the 2013 edition, noted the importance of experienced batters in the middle order. He specifically highlighted the need for Rohit Sharma’s presence to control the game during the middle overs.

Rohit Sharma has had immense success as captain of Mumbai Indians, leading the franchise to five IPL titles. With his sights set on a historic sixth title win, the 35-year-old batter is eagerly anticipating the upcoming season. Mumbai Indians will be kicking off the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 2 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

It should be noted that Mumbai Indians have a strong batting lineup but having a seasoned player like Sharma in the middle order would be an added advantage for the team. Sharma’s captaincy and batting prowess have been instrumental in Mumbai Indians’ success in the IPL. The team is also dealing with the absence of some key players, such as Jasprit Bumrah, which puts more pressure on Rohit Sharma and other senior players to step up and lead the team to victory.
