Experts comment on IPL Auction 2023 buys for next season

Indian Premier League

Yesterday, three players became the most expensive buys in the IPL Auction 2023.

Punjab Kings started the high buying session when they acquired Sam Curran for 18.5 crores after which Mumbai Indians broke the bank for Cameron Green at 17.5 crores.

Furthermore, Chennai Super Kings also purchased the services of Ben Stokes for 16.25 crores at the auction.

Curran’s record for the most expensive buy now eclipses Chris Morris’ record of being the most expensive buy.

Curran now joins his compatriots Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone in Punjab Kings while Green went to Mumbai Indians.

Stokes who has formerly played under Dhoni in Rising Pune Supergiants will now join hands with him in yellow threads.

Experts have given their opinions on the highest buys and of other players who have been snapped up.

Chris Gayle, Scott Styris, Anil Kumble, Eoin Morgan, and AB de Villiers have kept their opinions on the table.

Experts comment on player’s performances during IPL 2023 Auction

On Stokes, Curran, and Green, Gayle says,

These three are private jet category players.

West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has been bought by Lucknow Super Giants for 16 crores. Says fellow countryman Gayle,

Nikki P, the money that I lend you, can I get it back please.

Harry Brook also became a good buy in the IPL auction.

Brook has got 13.25 crores from Sunrisers Hyderabad. The English player has amassed 468 runs with an average and strike rate of 93 in the Test series against Pakistan which England won 3-0.

In T20Is, Brook has played 20 matches in which he has 372 runs with an average of 26.57 and a strike rate of over 135.

Adds Gayle,

Harry Brook- broke the bank early! That’s a lot of money, it’s a good buy. He’s good player as well. I’m happy for Mayank Agarwal as well. So, Sunrisers really tucking it up in the batting department.

Meanwhile, Scott Styris has also agreed with Gayle’s point of view and says that Agarwal has been a great buy for SRH.

Indian players are worth more than overseas because you need seven versus the four overseas. So, I think it’s a great buy.

On the other hand, Anil Kumble has been impressed with the buys of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians of Ben Stokes and Cameron Green respectively.

Someone like Cameron Green- we spoke about this yesterday too saying Wankhede Stadium will be probably ideal for him, so Mumbai Indians will be happy with that buy and Chennai Super Kings has done really well there with Ben Stokes- with the leadership there. MS Dhoni and Ben Stokes, I mean you can’t ask for a better sort of a combination.

AB de Villiers and Eoin Morgan have also kept their opinions on the different buys at the IPL 2023 Auction.

There is no amount of money enough for Ben Stokes- he is an unbelievable player, experienced with both bat and ball. I actually think he is a bit undervalued and is going to bring a lot to the party!
