Harbhajan Singh condemns highly talked Kohli-Gambhir feud

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Harbhajan Singh has shared his views on the altercation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir after the match between RCB and LSG on May 1.

Following the Bengaluru-based franchise’s victory over KL Rahul’s LSG in a low-scoring contest in Lucknow, Kohli and Gambhir had a heated exchange of words, which had to be separated by their respective team members. Harbhajan expressed his disappointment with the on-field scenes, calling them “not right for the sport.”

In 2008, Harbhajan Singh had a controversial moment during a match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), where he engaged in an argument with the former Punjab pacer Sreesanth and slapped him. This led to a ban for Harbhajan for the remainder of the season.

“I am ashamed of what I did with Sreesanth in 2008. Virat Kohli is a legend, [he] should not get involved in such things. Whatever happened between Virat and Gambhir was not right for cricket,”

Harbhajan said.

Their relationship was never the same after the incident at Chinnaswamy: Harbhajan

Back in 2013, Kohli and Gambhir had an altercation on-field in the top-tier league. At the time, Gambhir was the KKR skipper, and Kohli was the RCB skipper. The former had a heated exchange with the latter after his dismissal at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Harbhajan further mentioned that the incident back then caused a strain in their relationship, despite sharing the dressing room for team India.

“If you see the highlights of this match, you’ll say that there was more fighting than cricket going on. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli already have their rivalry and differences from before itself. Their relationship was never the same after the incident at the Chinnaswamy Stadium long back,”

Harbhajan further added.

Both Virat and Gambhir are fined 100% of their match fees for breaching the IPL code of conduct.
