Harmanpreet Kaur happy with India Women’s progress in T20I series

Harmanpreet Kaur

India women’s skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur has heaped praises on her team for showing commendable improvement in their game.

India women’s team lost the 5-match series against Australia women 4-1 but Kaur feels that India have a lot to learn from this.

She also admitted that they were not able to stop Australia as the final game of the series became a one-sided affair.

For India, spin-allrounder Deepti Sharma was the top scorer who reduced the margin of defeat for the hosts.

But it was too late and Sharma had no support from batters at the other end that’s why she continued to fight valiantly for the hosts.

Kaur says India women’s team have gained a lot of learnings from the series

I think we were really good in the first 10-12 overs. We know the kind of power they have in their game, unfortunately we were not able to stop them. Lot of learnings for us.

She added,

We knew the type of cricket they play, happy to have improved though in a lot of areas. Lot of things we learnt from them, the way they were clearing the boundaries- that is something we had like to bring in.

Kaur further said,

Self-belief has been the biggest positive in this series. We have a month off now where we’d like to train hard before the World Cup.

India successfully clamped Australia down to 67/4 in 10 overs. But, a 129-run fifth-wicket partnership between Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris ensured that Australia women posted a total of 196/4.

In the second innings, India women were never in the run chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

At one stage of the game, it felt that India were heading for a humiliating defeat but Deepti Sharma’s 53 from 34 balls reduced the margin to 54 runs.

India women were bundled up at 142 runs as Sharma was out in the last ball of the innings.
