Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave a strong reaction when a question was raised to him as to why senior players are taking frequent breaks.

Rohit Sharma and co. arrived in Bangladesh for a bilateral series. Team India had an average outing in New Zealand. And hence, the team will look for some redemption. Also, India will look to try a few combinations as the ODI World Cup 2023 is approaching real quick.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma came out to address a press conference before the first ODI against Bangladesh. He addressed a few controversial topics and was very blunt while giving answers. Rohit Sharma also explained the reasons behind so many players’ senior players missing out on so many games.

“There’s a lot of cricket,” Rohit Sharma backs senior players taking breaks

Rohit Sharma was asked why so many senior players are taking a break from international cricket. He said that the cricket schedule is very hectic, and hence, they need to manage the players. Rohit Sharma also stated that people and fans need to understand that the management is taking such decisions with the bigger picture in mind.

“As professionals, we have to keep up the intensity. Yes, there’s a lot of cricket and that’s why we give them breaks. And people need to understand that when we give players a break, it is only to manage the workload keeping the bigger picture in mind”

Rohit Sharma further added that there is way too much cricket happening and the players can’t keep up with all the matches. Hence, workload management is needed to keep players fresh.

“Cricket is not going to stop. There will always be a lot of cricket and we need to manage our players. You want your best players to play with higher intensity all the time. So it is important to give them breaks, manage them as freshness is very important”

“Lot of the guys have been on the road before the World Cup and we had two back-to-back series versus Australia and South Africa. And then, we went straight to Australia. It has already been two and half months. It is impossible in this day and age that you will always play with your best 15. It’s not going to happen”
