New Zealand senior paceman Tim Southee was awarded the prestigious Sir Richard Hadlee Medal at the NZC Cricket Awards 2022.

This is Southee’s first-ever medal in his cricketing career.

Southee scalped 36 Test wickets in the 2021-22 season for New Zealand.

It includes his 5 wicket haul against India at the ICC World Test Championship which went in favour of New Zealand.

His best bowling figures in this period are 6/43 against England at Lord’s.

He was part of New Zealand in last year’s ICC T20 World Cup final.

He also captained the side in the absence of Kane Williamson when New Zealand toured India last year.

Southee felt extremely happy and honoured to receive the prestigious medal for the first time and praised the exploits of Sir Richard Hadlee as well.

Sir Richard Hadlee was a part of the selection panel for the medal.

Sir Richard wants Southee to break his record of 431 Test wickets. Southee so far has 338 wickets to his name in the longest format of cricket.

He feels that if Southee breaks his record of most Test wickets for New Zealand, he will then let go of the record and he also added that Southee still has more years of cricket left in him.

Will Young, Amelia Kerr, Trent Boult and Sophie Devine have also been awarded in different award categories.

Devon Conway received the Test Player of the Year award for his 767 runs at an average of 63.91.
