LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS

A professional cricket team called the Lucknow Super Giants is headquartered in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In 2021, the Lucknow franchise was established. Its main owner is Sanjeev Goenka. Moreover, KL Rahul serves as the team’s captain, and Andy Flower is the head coach. Gautam Gambhir is the team’s coach. Thereafter, the Lucknow Super Giants made the playoffs in their first season.
The RPSG Group, which held the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise from 2016 to 2017, is the team’s owner. It is anticipated that this squad will host its games at Lucknow’s BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium.

In August 2021, the Indian Premier League’s Governing Council invited bidders to submit proposals for two more teams. There were a total of 22 companies that expressed interest. But only six were serious bidders due to the new teams’ high base price. However, a  group of three businesses or people were allowed to submit a joint offer for each franchise by the BCCI. Moreover, w ith a bid of 7,090 crores, the Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group was awarded the franchise to run the Lucknow franchise.

The name Lucknow Super Giants was decided for the squad in January 2022 after a contest to choose a name was held. KL Rahul was selected as the team’s captain ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and paid 17 crores. This made him the league’s second-highest paid player. Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stoinis were also purchased by the franchise.

First Season

Lucknow had a decent first season as they qualified for the playoffs. However, a lot was expected from the franchise as they had many star players. They were defeated by RCB in an Eliminator by 14 runs. Rajat Patidar scored a magnificent hundred for Bangalore.
