Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has joined hands with Ricky Ponting, Pravin Amre, James Hopes and Ajit Agarkar and will form part of the coaching staff for Delhi Capitals.

Watson expressed great excitement in joining a dynamic squad like the Delhi Capitals and was ready to help them win their first title.

He said in a recent press release that he will do everything in his power as assistant coach to help the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

This is also Watson’s first time as a coach and he is happy to be learning under the great Ricky Ponting. He heaped praises on Ponting and called him a great leader.

Watson was part of three IPL franchises during his career, being an MVP for the Rajasthan Royals that won the title in the inaugural edition of the IPL.

After that, he was briefly with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and then with the Chennai Super Kings.

He was very successful in the 2018 edition of the IPL where CSK won their third title.

He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in November 2020 when the Chennai Super Kings for the first time in the IPL didn’t qualify for the playoffs.

Watson has also been part of 2 World Cups for Australia which they won in 2007 and 2015.

He was also the Player of the Match in the finals of the Champions Trophy in 2006 and 2009.

Although Watson did play 59 Tests for Australia, he was a really powerful player in the white-ball format.

He has been an explosive batsman in both ODIs and T20Is.
