Parthiv Patel confident in Tilak Varma’s future as a cricketer

Mumbai Indians

On Tuesday, April 11th, Mumbai Indians chased down 173 runs against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave Mumbai a strong start, but after Kishan’s dismissal, they struggled in the middle overs due to the challenging surface. Despite the difficulty, 20-year-old Tilak Varma remained composed and played brilliantly, hitting some fantastic shots that set the tone for the match. Although he scored 41 runs off 29 deliveries and couldn’t finish the game, his performance impressed former India stumper-batter Parthiv Patel.

Tilak’s maturity is clearly visible: Parthiv

Parthiv said:

“He batted at number three, and the way he batted in a pitch which wasn’t easy for batters is commendable. His footwork was phenomenal, the way he can get into position quickly. Strike rotations weren’t easy with the way the off-spinners were bowling. We see his maturity innings after innings, so I think that was the biggest plus point.”

“When you come in at the start, you can get a good season. After that, everyone knows you’re playing style, what your strengths are, and your weaknesses. But to come back to the tournament and start like this is worthy of praise. It shows the confidence as well as the maturity of the player. Tilak Varma is a player for the future, and there’s no doubt in that,”

Parthiv further added.

After losing their first two matches, Mumbai Indians secured their first victory in the tournament. Rohit Sharma’s half-century and Tilak Varma’s innings were crucial in setting up the win, despite a few quick wickets in the death overs.

During the match, Delhi Capitals made a comeback during the final phase, posing a challenge for Mumbai Indians. However, Cameron Green and Tim David remained composed, ultimately winning the game on the final delivery. This victory propelled Mumbai to the eighth spot on the IPL Points Table.
