RP Singh: Shami introduces his skills before finding batsmen’s weaknesses

Hardik Pandya - Mohammed Shami - Gujarat Titans

Former Indian pacer RP Singh praised Mohammed Shami’s skills in white-ball cricket. He described Shami as a special player who sticks to his strengths and observes the batter’s weaknesses to use them to his advantage.

Shami currently leads the IPL Purple Cap race with 17 wickets in nine matches. As an experienced campaigner, he studies the weaknesses of all batters through Excel sheets and PowerPoints before each match to formulate his own plans. According to Singh, Shami is a crucial asset to any team he plays for, thanks to his analytical approach and skillful execution on the field.

“When you are an experienced bowler, you know how the pitch would behave and what kind of batter is on the other end. You discuss a lot in the team meetings and in the excel sheets and powerpoints, but an experienced bowler can even formulate his plans looking at the batter’s bat-lift,”

RP said.

“The most special part is that Shami sticks to his strengths; his job is to bowl slightly outside the off-stump and let the ball do the rest. He introduces his skills first then looks for the batter’s weaknesses,”

he further added.

Siraj can also be the next Mohammed Shami: RP Singh

RP Singh praised the promising fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, saying that he has the potential to be the next Mohammed Shami if he continues to improve. Singh also highlighted that Siraj is an ideal substitute for Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently out of action. Moreover, he commended Siraj’s efforts in enhancing his fitness level, which is crucial for fast bowlers to stay injury-free and maintain their form.

“Siraj seems to have worked out in a few areas, with fitness being a major part. If you look at the technical part of his bowling, he has worked on his wrist positions and follow-through which has helped him in finding better bounce off the pitch. He can certainly be a good replacement for (Jasprit) Bumrah and if his graph keeps moving higher, then he can also be the next Mohammed Shami,”
