3 players likely to warm bench for India in test series against Bangladesh

India

KL Rahul led India is all set to play a 2-match test series against Bangladesh starting Wednesday, 14th December 2022.

After a crushing series defeat in the ODIs against Bangladesh, India will play a red-ball series. India did not do well in the ODI series except for the last match. Now, the visitors will look for redemption in the red ball series.

India will play without their regular skipper, Rohit Sharma. Rohit suffered serious injuries to his thumb in the ODI series and is ruled out of the first test. As a result, KL Rahul has been named the stand-in skipper. Moreover, Rishabh Pant has returned to the squad after missing out on the ODI series due to unknown reasons. However, there are a few names in the squad who might not get a game in these 2-match test series.

3 players unlikely to feature in the playing XI for India

  • 1. Jaydev Unadkat

Saurashtra skipper, Jaydev Unadkat is enjoying a dream run at the moment. He led his side to win two major domestic tournaments. As a reward, Jaydev got the national call-up as a replacement for the injured Mohammad Shami for the test series against Bangladesh. However, Jaydev is unlikely to make the playing XI for India due to stiff competition from the team’s other regular pacers.

  • 2. Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi was rewarded for his consistent grind in the Indian domestic circuit. He has traveled with team India for multiple white ball series but could not get a game. Hence, the same fate is likely to haunt the batter in Bangladesh as well. He is unlikely to get a game in the upcoming red ball series as there are ample experienced middle-order batters in the squad.

  • 3. KS Bharat

KS Bharat received a call up as the backup wicketkeeper batter in the India unit. Since Rishabh Pant has returned to the team, KS Bharat’s chances of making the starting XI have diminished even further. Hence, Bharat could also be seen warming the bench in this red ball series.
