Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar recently shared his thoughts on the state of Test cricket after India was criticized for producing short-duration pitches. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Tendulkar stated that the focus should be on the attractiveness of a Test match rather than its length. He emphasized the need to prioritize the quality of the game over its duration.

Tendulkar also mentioned the importance of being able to play on different types of pitches and adapt to challenging conditions as a cricketer. He highlighted the significance of touring teams understanding the conditions of away matches and planning accordingly to perform well.

We need to do something for the bowlers in order to maintain Test cricket as the top format: Sachin

“We need to understand one thing that Test cricket should be attractive and the emphasis should not be on how many days it lasts. Cricketers are made to play on different pitches. Whether the pitch is helpful to the fast bowlers or according to the spinners, we should come to face the ball in every situation,”

Tendulkar said.

Tendulkar addressed the discussions held between ICC and MCC, emphasizing the importance of preserving Test cricket’s significance. He expressed that in order to make the format more entertaining, there must be an equal focus on bowlers as they have the potential to challenge batsmen, making them play more strategically.

“We are all talking about Test cricket with ICC, MCC. How can Test cricket remain the top format? If we want that, we need to do something for the bowlers. The bowlers ask a question every ball and the batsman has to answer it,”

Tendulkar further added.

Three matches in the Border-Gavaskar trophy concluded within three days. This is noteworthy as it indicates a trend of matches finishing early.
