Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has been the top wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians this IPL season, claiming 17 wickets so far. Despite not attracting bidders in the previous auction, Chawla was picked up by MI for INR 50 lakh. Recently, fellow Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared a humorous anecdote involving Chawla and his six-year-old son.

Ashwin revealed that Chawla prohibits his son from picking up the ball, hitting him on his hand when he tries. Chawla has also been training his son, and reportedly asked MI to set aside INR 20 crore for his son’s future.

“He said ‘my son is also watching each and every game and torturing me like anything’. I asked him does he like cricket? He told me he loves the sport and gets everyone in the family to sit in front of the TV and watch matches Piyush told me that he has told his son to not even dream of becoming a bowler. His son is 7 years old and if he even touches the ball, he hits him in his hand. He forces the ball off his hand and gives the bat,”

Ashwin said.

“He said he has already told Mumbai Indians that a good batter is developing and keep aside Rs 20 crore.I asked him about training. He said ‘I am bowling to him from the morning. If I bowl in the IPL, they are paying me only Rs 50 lakh. If he bats well, in 10 years’ time, they will pay him Rs 20 crore,

Ashwin further added.

Chawla has 17 wickets in IPL 2023

Chawla has been the standout performer for Mumbai Indians this season with 17 wickets from 11 matches. He has been instrumental in MI’s bowling lineup, which has been hit by injuries.
