Aakash Chopra not happy with the state of India’s pitches

Aakash Chopra

Former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra has expressed his displeasure with the state of the pitches in India.

With the 50-over World Cup looming this year, Chopra feels that the condition of the Indian pitches is really not up to the mark.

He has further stated that if the pitches remain this way even in the World Cup, then the matches will not be of interest at all.

This comment of Chopra’s comes after the completion of the ODI series between India and New Zealand which the hosts won 3-0.

In the third ODI, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were in great form as both of them hit hundreds and India finished with a score of 385/9.

New Zealand on the other hand, fell short by 90 runs while chasing a target of 386.

Says Chopra on his YouTube channel,

If ODI cricket is played on such pitches, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are going to hit a lot. Usually both will hit in the same match or else at least one will definitely hit. The day both of them get out early, Kohli will destroy you. These pitches are not great for cricket.

For Aakash Chopra, India are the favorites to win the World Cup yet again

Meanwhile, Chopra has also stated that if you want only batting-friendly pitches, you have many more of them around the world.

If you want only hitting, you will get more such pitches. I personally feel it is not a good thing because when the World Cup happens here, 400 runs will be scored easily. 400 runs is not a great thing.

Moreover, Chopra says while the pitches will favor the batters all along, the viewers will definitely lose interest in the matches and the tournament can go for a toss.

Previously, India has achieved scores close to 400 against Sri Lanka during the matches in Guwahati and Trivandrum.

India had scores of 373/7 and 390/5 in both of these matches and won them quite comfortably.

Concluding, Chopra says,

Once in a while, it is okay but if you see the last six matches, three each against Sri Lanka and New Zealand- Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and then here- you are reaching close to 400. The ODI World Cup will happen for sure, India will start as runaway favourites but the matches might not be that interesting.
