Aakash Chopra shares views over Bhuvi’s selection for WTC Final

Sunrisers Hyderabad

As the highly anticipated IPL 2023 approaches its conclusion, fans have been captivated by numerous thrilling matches, with teams striving to secure a spot in the playoffs. With the impending World Test Championship Final (WTC Final), Indian cricketers have been eager to make a strong impression before the squad selection. While some players have impressed, others have failed to catch the attention of national selectors. One such player is Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who initially had a slow start in the IPL. But gradually showcased his bowling prowess. Kumar’s recent five-wicket haul against the Gujarat Titans has sparked a debate among cricket enthusiasts. Regarding his inclusion in the WTC Final squad. However, former India opener and commentator Aakash Chopra believes that despite his impressive performance, Kumar does not quite meet the criteria for the final of the World Test Championship.

Chopra commended Kumar for his bowling display but emphasized that ongoing injury concerns surrounding selected players should be considered when making squad decisions.

“First half of the English summer, you will need swing. Jasprit Bumrah and Umesh Yadav injured. Shardul Thakur is looking 50-50 and Jaydev Unadkat’s availability is also not yet confirmed. So, in such a scenario, can Bhuvneshwar Kumar be added? I still feel no but that’s just my thought,”

Chopra said.

Heinrich Klaasen is playing spin best in the middle overs: Chopra

In regard to the batting performance of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, Aakash Chopra commended Heinrich Klaasen for his exceptional display in the ongoing IPL 2023. Chopra singled out Klaasen as the sole positive aspect of SRH’s campaign, highlighting his consistent run-scoring in the middle order.

“Heinrich Klaasen is batting amazingly well. Among all overseas batters who are playing in this year’s tournament, Heinrich Klaasen is playing spin best in the middle overs and towards the end in my opinion. He reads spin from the hand and plays with the spin. He is actually batting like an absolute beast,”

Chopra added.
