Former South African cricketer, AB De Villiers disclosed his opinion on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad for the IPL 2023.

IPL 2023 mini auction concluded on 23rd December 2022 in Kochi. 405 players went under the hammer. Furthermore, all-rounders were the biggest gainers. Sam Curran made history by being the most expensive buy in the history of IPL. Punjab Kings bought Curran for a record INR 18.50 Cr. The auction has ended, and the squads of 10 teams are ready to battle it out.

However, not many franchises had a big purse to fight hard at the auction table. One such team was RCB. RCB entered the auction with INR 8.25 Cr. Hence, they could not get any big names under their fold. However, they did by Englishmen Will Jacks for INR 5.1 Cr. AB De Villiers, a former RCB veteran, has now shared his thoughts on the squad that the club has assembled for the upcoming season.

“I like the look of this team,” AB De Villiers

AB De Villiers spoke at Jio Cinema after the mini-auction concluded. He issued his verdict on the new RCB squad for the IPL 2023. He said that the team looks good and can do better than last season. However, he also shared his concerns regarding an age old problem with the franchise.

“Yeah I like the look of this team that had a good season last year, they came close. There’s a good balance, good backup, I just need a couple of guys in form. It’s the same old story I think when it comes to that, we need couple of guys in the top order to fire. There’s a lot of class in that line-up. Josh Hazlewood has been the best find. I think he is a quality player, very experienced. That’s exactly what we needed in the last few years,”

AB De Villiers further added that he is backing Virat Kohli to be in form this season. Moreover, he also showed belief in Maxwell and Patidar to fire for the franchise.

“It’s just a matter of getting Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) in form and then somebody like a Rajat Patidar to make sure he continues with that kind of form and a few guys chipping around him,”

“Virat we know, batted well in the World Cup and if he is in form, we are gonna go a long way. So, I’m looking forward to seeing these boys perform. They’ve got a lot of confidence from last year and now it’s just a matter of building on that and taking it all the way,”
