Akash Chopra questions selectors about exclusion of Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel

The Indian team has been facing the issues of chopping and changing the team too often for the last few years. A player gets selected for the team and then disappears after a poor performance in 5-6 matches. Former Indian cricketer turned expert Akash Chopra has asked some stern questions to the selectors about the exclusion of Harshal Patel from the squad.

Akash Chopra also said that Harshal was the T20 specialist of the Indian side heading into the World Cup. He went to Australia but did not feature in any of the T20 Internationals. Akash Chopra said that he hasn’t seen the fast bowler since the World Cup. He questioned whether he is injured and asked the updates about his whereabouts.

Akash Chopra’s Tweet

“What’s the update on Harshal Patel? Is he still nursing an injury? He was our T20 specialist leading into the World Cup…didn’t get to play in Aus. Haven’t seen him since. #IndvNZ,” tweeted Aakash.

Harshal Patel had 2 brilliant seasons in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He singlehandedly took RCB into the playoffs in the last season.

Hence, he was included in the team and had been backed for a long time just before the T20 World Cup. Prior to the World Cup, he had picked 22 wickets in 21 matches.

But an injury ruled him out of the Asia Cup and there was a chance that he could have also missed the World Cup. He did not play a single match in the World Cup. He featured in only 2 games post the World Cup.
