Alcohol served at CSK’s stadium. Governmental attitude questioned

There was a huge controversy in Tamil Nadu over the serving of alcohol in the stadium during the IPL matches. The opposition criticized the government. They claim that authorities are serving alcohol in IPL matches. But according to laws, government had a promise of a complete ban on the sale of alcohol. Even some weddings are serving alcohol. The Tamil Nadu government, however, denied the claim.

Tamil Nadu Excise Minister V Senthil Kumar said that while stadiums can allow liquor at IPL matches and global business meetings. However, there is no relaxation on drinking at weddings. The rules have kept it forbidden as before.

Although the last March 18 government notification does not say that. The government has revised the liquor rules. According to the new rule, it can allow liquor conditionally at international and national meetings and various conferences and festivals.

Serving alcohol has triggered political bashings in the state

The Deputy Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner of Excise may permit the serving of liquor for one day or more with the prior permission of the District Collector. Government allowed liquors only in the conference halls, banquet halls, sports stadiums besides wedding ceremonies where liquor.

This is what the opposition has used. AIADMK general secretary K Palaniswami claimed that the ruling party is bringing back the same thing. It had killed an entire generation. They are involved in anti-social activities. They claim that the ruling party DMK came to power by promising to impose a complete ban on drinking alcohol. But they are moving away from that promise.
