The BCCI and IPL committee have started their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Premier League or WPL.

There is going to be an auction on the dates from February 11-13 at Jio World Centre, Mumbai.

As many as 1,000 women cricketers have signed up to be a part of this auction. Out of this, only 100-120 will be picked in the final auction.

There are only five teams participating this year and that’s why the number is reduced so much.

Last year, around 1,214 male cricketers registered for the mega auction of the IPL.

And then out of these 600, only 278 players were taken up by the ten teams.

Sources tell about the latest developments regarding WPL

A close source of WPL recently reveals that,

Lot of interest has been seen and as many as 1000 cricketers have signed up for the WPL auction. Very healthy participation from both Indian and international players.

However, with the owners of the five teams announced on 25th January by the BCCI, the teams have not got much time to sit down and strategize.

That’s why they will be focusing very much on the February 11-13 mega auctions of WPL.

A team official from one of the new teams says,

No official communication yet but we are prepping in full swing for the February 11-February 13 window. Makes sense too because the ILT20 and SA20 will be in their final stages before that and most WPL teams, who have presence there, will find it hard to juggle two, some even three.

BCCI released an invitation for sponsorship of WPL 2023

Additionally, the BCCI has also released a notice for the title sponsorship of the WPL from 2023-2027.

The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process including eligibility requirements, process for submissions of bids, rights and obligations of the title sponsor, etc. are contained in the ‘Request for Proposal’ (‘RFP’) which will be made available on receipt of payment of a non-refundable fee of INR 1,00,000 plus any any applicable Goods and Services Tax. The procedure to procure the RFP documents is enlisted in Annexure A to this notice. The RFP will be available for purchase till February 9, 2023.

Adding further, the release says,

Interested parties are requested to email the details of payment made for the purchase of the RFP to rfp@bcci.tv, as per the procedure laid down in Annexure A. It is clarified that the RFP documents shall be shared only upon the confirmation of payment of the non-refundable RFP fee.

While Mithali will be mentor to Gujarat Giants, her former teammate, Jhulan Goswami is going to be bowling coach and mentor of the Mumbai team.
