India’s ace spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin went past Kapil Dev’s 434 Test wickets to become the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests.

He achieved this feat in just 85 matches after dismissing Charith Asalanka in Sri Lanka’s second innings on Sunday.

India went on to win the match by an innings and 222 runs.

But, it was never on Ashwin’s mind to become a spinner or play for India in the first place.

He always dreamed to become a batsman and was quite fond of Kapil Dev’s bowling and batting.

He revealed on his YouTube channel how 28 years ago, he and his dad cheered for Kapil Dev and how he always wanted to become a batsman.

On the advice of his father, Ashwin used to bowl medium pace as well so that he can become India’s next Kapil Dev.

Ashwin also surpassed legendary Richard Hadlee and Rangana Herath in the wickets department.

Anil Kumble sits right at the top of the highest wicket-takers for India in Tests with 619 scalps.

But soon, Ashwin bloomed in another direction and became an off-spinner and has now served India for many years.

He is elated to be a part of the Indian team and is humble about his achievement.
