Contests between India and Australia in the recent past have been nothing short of drama and fierce battles. The atmosphere and the hype around the series are no less than the Ashes. The Border Gavaskar series will start on February 9 in Nagpur. The Indian team have won 3 series on a trot including 2 in Australia.

The last Border Gavaskar Trophy was an absolute theatre till the last moment. India without most of their experienced players managed to win the series in Australia. New heroes emerged in the form of Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammad Siraj.

Australia is the only team who have challenged India at home. They managed to win a match in India’s last series and also draw one match at Ranchi. This itself was a massive achievement considering the invincible record of India at home. This time the team is stronger than ever, with a highly balanced squad. They have the best chance to beat India at home and win the series.

BCCI has confirmed that this will be the last series with 4 matches being played. In the next series, 5 test matches will be played between the 2 strong teams.

Statement from BCCI

“This will also be the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a 4-match Test series feature,”

Statement from BCCI.

The last time both teams played a 5 match test series was way back in 1991/92. Australia will host the 5-match test series between the 2 sides in the next cycle of the World Test Championship.
