BCCI forms advisory committee for formation of the new selection panel

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to form a three-member advisory committee for the formation of a new selection panel.

BCCI dropped a bombshell on the existing selection committee of the Indian cricket team. The board sacked the entire panel after India’s embarrassing semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup 2022. The panel was led by former Indian cricketer, Chetan Sharma.

The panel has been under scrutiny for a while now. They faced constant criticism for Virat Kohli’s abrupt captaincy termination. Also, the panel was facing a lot of heat for its unruly player selection. Indian team has played with 8 different captains across all formats since Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s regular skipper.

“BCCI announces the appointment of CAC members,” Jay Shah, Secretary of BCCI

Jay Shah, Secretary of BCCI, made a media announcement on Thursday 1st December 2022. In an open letter, he informed that the BCCI has decided to appoint a three-member advisory committee. The committee will have Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Mr. Jatin Paranjape, and Ms. Sulakshana Naik.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, announced the appointment of its Cricket Advisory Committee”

“The three-member committee comprises Mr Ashok Malhotra, Mr Jatin Paranjape and Ms Sulakshana Naik”

“Mr Malhotra has represented India in 7 Tests and 20 One-day internationals and recently served as the President of the Indian Cricketers’ Association. Mr Paranjape has played 4 ODIs for India and was part of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee”

“Ms Naik, who played two Tests, 46 ODIs, and 31 T20Is for India in a career spanning 11 years, continues to be a part of the three-member CAC”

Furthermore, a few names have emerged as the front runners for the chief selector’s role. Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad is said to be the front-runner to lead the selection committee. Moreover, Chetan Sharma is also likely to re-apply for the said post. Nevertheless, all things depend on the committee’s final report.
