Ben Stokes, England’s red-ball skipper has been declared the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year by the international body.

Stokes has been pretty exceptional in 2022 with his fine captaincy skills, and his batting, and bowling in Tests for England.

Since taking charge of England’s Test side, Stokes has won 9 out of 10 Test matches and has also worked on reviving England’s Test team.

During 2022, Stokes played 15 Tests where he scored 870 runs with an average of 36.25 that included 2 tons and four half-centuries.

And his assertive batting style awarded him 26 sixes and 96 fours in 2022.

Coming to his bowling, then Stokes has taken 26 wickets with an average of 31.19 while giving away only three runs per over.

Ben Stokes and his revolutionary way of playing Test cricket

However, it is as a skipper that Stokes has shone the most. With head coach Brendon McCullum, Stokes has shown the world how Test cricket is played.

Recently, before Christmas, the English team traveled to Pakistan to play a three-match Test series.

England won all three matches and it is a historic win for them this series and it goes down in history books as one of the greatest away wins for England.

During the series, England’s bowlers averaged only 5.50 runs per over. Also, there was quite an attacking batting on display along with some assertive captaincy from Stokes.

Additionally, at Rawalpindi, Stokes managed to give a good declaration during the high-scoring Test match.

England eventually went on to win this Test before sunset.

These qualities of Stokes have surely revived England’s fortunes for good.

In the future, they will look to compete heavily for the coveted title of ICC’s World Test Championship for sure.

Let’s hope that Stokes goes on to create England as a better team in Tests.
