India’s T20I squad left for Australia in the wee hours of October 6 to take part in the T20 World Cup there.

They start their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on the 23rd of October and before that, they have two warm-up games as well.

Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah is not travelling with India to Australia because of a back injury.

That’s why only 14 members have travelled Down Under as of now.

BCCI will be announcing a replacement for the pacer in a few days’ time.

Former South Africa pacer, Dale Steyn on a show in Star Sports has already selected his choice of pacer who can successfully replace Bumrah in the squad.

As of now, India has in their reserves Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Deepak Chahar but Steyn feels that Shami will be the perfect replacement for Bumrah.

Says Steyn,

Once the opposition hears that Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable, they all breathe a sigh of relief. He’s such a wonderful bowler. He’s played around the world, he’s an impact player, he can bowl at any time in the match. His execution of skills is on point, and India rely heavily on him. It’s a pity that he is not at the World Cup, because me, as an spectator, I actually want to go and watch him play.

The legendary pacer also feels that Shami has the skillset and experience equal to Bumrah’s.

Adding further, Steyn said,

I’m sad and feel for him. As a replacement, I would look at someone who can qualify with similar experience. Mohammed Shami is probably the guy I would go with. He’s been around the world, he can swing the ball and he can bowl quickly when he wants to.

Mohammed Shami contracted corona and is currently recovering from the illness. India hopes that he recovers soon so that he can be put in place of Bumrah in the squad.
