du Plessis on the verge of breaking several records in the IPL

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper, Faf du Plessis is on the cusp of breaking some massive records in this season of the IPL.

Currently, he is the orange cap holder with 405 runs to his name and a top score of 84. Additionally, he also has a healthy average of 57.857 runs this season.

Therefore, if he continues to play in this fashion, he will have around 810 runs by the time the league stage ends.

Meanwhile, his RCB teammate, Virat Kohli holds the record for the maximum number of runs in an IPL season with 961 runs in the 2016 season of the tournament.

Therefore, if du Plessis plays 17 more games in a similar way, he will break Kohli’s record and score 983 runs this season.

While it may or may not happen, the chances for breaking Kohli’s record still lie with the RCB skipper.

On the other hand, he also has five half-centuries to his name this season. Delhi Capitals’ David Warner holds the record for scoring the most number of fifties in an IPL season which is 9.

Moreover, Kohli again holds the record for scoring the most fifty-plus scores in an IPL campaign which is 11. So, if du Plessis keeps batting more this season, he is certain to break one or both of these records as well.

Some more records that Faf can break this season for himself

On the other hand, Faf has hit 25 sixes this season and if he plays all of RCB’s league games, then he will have 50 sixes at the end of the group stage.

Meanwhile, if RCB qualifies for the playoffs, then he will be able to break Chris Gayle’s record of hitting the most sixes in an IPL season which is 59.

Furthermore, another record that Faf might be considering this season is of hitting the most number of sixes in the Powerplay. Currently, that record is with Sanath Jayasuriya who smashed 22 sixes back in 2008.

So far, Faf has 12 sixes in the Powerplay, and if he can bat all the way to the end, then he is certain to break this record as well.

Meanwhile, RCB is having a mixed-bag season as they have won four and lost four games in the tournament.

Even though he has sustained a slight rib injury, du Plessis is still at the top of his game this season and scoring runs at will.

This also allows RCB to mask their deficiencies in the middle order to some extent.

And who knows, maybe du Plessis even becomes the first RCB skipper to win the IPL trophy this season.
