Reports suggest that the ICC World Cup’s defending champions, England, will face off against the runners-up of the 2019 World Cup, New Zealand, in the tournament opener at Ahmedabad on October 5, with the final set to take place on November 19 at the same venue. Also, it’s worth noting that England and New Zealand had faced each other in the final of the 2019 World Cup.

Hosts India will begin their campaign against Australia in their opening match in Chennai. This is according to Cricbuzz, a sports news website. The website also reported that India’s arch-rivals Pakistan have agreed to participate in the tournament in India. This is despite an ongoing disagreement over the Asia Cup’s schedule later this year.

Despite the fact that the World Cup’s opening and final matches are scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad, Pakistan has expressed a desire for a change in venue for their group stage matches, as they are not willing to play at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, they have agreed to play the final in Ahmedabad if they qualify for the summit clash. According to a tentative schedule, Pakistan is likely to play their games in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

Mohali and Nagpur are missing from the tentative list of World Cup venues

12 cities are going to host the 2023 world cup. These include Kolkata, Delhi, Indore, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Rajkot, Raipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. Mohali and Nagpur are the only notable exclusions from the list of venues.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will make an official announcement after the end of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) about the scheduling of the fixtures and venues. So, the tournament will consist of ten teams, with direct qualification secured by South Africa. The BCCI will make the final decision on the venues and other details.
