Former England captain, Eoin Morgan revealed that he was completely baffled to see India opt for a conservative approach in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

India faced an embarrassing defeat on the night of the semi-finals at the T20 World Cup 2022 against England. The men in blue were humiliated by a 10-wicket defeat and were eliminated from the tournament. Fans and critics were irked owing to India’s choice of approach in the match. India batted first and struggled heavily. It was only Hardik Pandya’s blistering knock of 63 runs that got India to a respectable total.

However, the game slipped out of India’s hands in the powerplay of the second innings. India leaked 63 runs in the first 6 overs and could not recover. The skipper looked lost and could not come up with a plan. As a result, the opening duo of Hales and Buttler took England to the finals without losing their wickets. Fans and critics questioned India’s tactics during the game. Eoin Morgan is the latest to join the mass.

“India didn’t have a Plan B or Plan C to fall back on,” Eoin Morgan criticizes India’s approach

Former English cricketer, Eoin Morgan has come out in the open to criticize the Indian team’s approach in the semi-finals. He said that in a tough situation like that, India went back to its conservative approach. That eventually resulted in their defeat. Eoin Morgan also spoke about Jos Buttler’s captaincy and said that he did a good job under pressure.

“I any heavyweight battle when it comes to a side being dominated like they were. And let’s be honest, India were dominated from start to finish. You have to continue to throw punches and England did that. Jos Buttler’s captaincy was outstanding; his tactics and strategies throughout the whole game were absolutely excellent. England made India play that way; they strangled them and it looked like India didn’t have a Plan B or Plan C to fall back on. We were watching and talking about why India chose to play that way,”

Eoin Morgan further added that India missed a trick by not going all out and being aggressive against England. Morgan feels they failed to adapt to the situation and eventually lost the game.

“Perhaps you can question their planning into the game or the lack of adaptation when England had been so strong. Rewind the clock 5-6 months ago when India visited England and again dominated by playing this free-spirited, very aggressive and positive mantra under Rohit Sharma. We sat back and lauded Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma but certainly it wasn’t evident in Adelaide,”
