Ganguly makes big prediction for Shaw; says he’s ready to play for India

Prithvi Shaw - Indian Team

Former India skipper and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly has made a big prediction for young opener Prithvi Shaw.

Ganguly says that Shaw is looking ready to feature for India once again.

In just a few days, the next edition of the Indian Premier League, or IPL is about to start.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI selectors will keep a close watch on all the Indian players.

If the players perform well in the IPL, then their chances of getting picked will open up.

That’s why Ganguly has stated that Shaw is a great player.

Says Ganguly,

I think Prithvi Shaw is ready to play for India. Whether he gets an opportunity will depend on the slots. I am sure Rohit Sharma and the selectors have a close eye on him. He is a good player and ready.

Ganguly is currently the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals and he will be mighty pleased if Shaw gets a spot for the World Cup.

Ricky Ponting also backs Shaw and says this could be the latter’s best season

Not only Ganguly, but a few days back, DC head coach, Ricky Ponting had also praised Shaw and said that he’s working hard on his fitness and has a good attitude for the IPL.

Additionally, in January this year, he was included in the Indian squad for a home series, but was benched throughout.

Moreover, he made his debut in T20Is for India back in 2021 against Sri Lanka and that was also the last time he played for the national side.

Although, Shaw was going to be selected for the T20I series against New Zealand at home, the selectors decided to go instead with Shubman Gill.

Shaw has also played five Tests and six ODIs where he has scored 339 and 189 runs respectively.

Furthermore, Shaw joined the Delhi Capitals back in 2018 and became the youngest opener in the IPL at 18 years and 165 days.

He then played brilliantly in that season and made history in a game against the Punjab Kings.

In the upcoming season of the IPL, Delhi Capitals will open their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow.
