Gautam Gambhir asks KL Rahul to prove himself capable in ODI series

Gautam Gambhir

Former India batsman and now mentor to Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Gautam Gambhir has given some serious advice to KL Rahul.

Further, he wants Rahul to make the most of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.

This year hasn’t been very kind to KL Rahul. Moreover, he has seen a dip in performance and has also been removed from the role of vice-captain by the outgoing selection committee.

Meanwhile, Gambhir is of the opinion that not a single player in the current Indian squad is indispensable.

Gambhir’s advice to KL Rahul on improving his game for the ODI series

Says Gambhir,

If you don’t perform, someone else will take your position. That’s not only with Sanju or KL, it’s with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as well. If they don’t perform, you will start questioning about their positions too. That’s what international cricket is about. No one is indispensable. So you got three ODIs, you bat in the middle-order, try and get some runs, because ultimately it’s the performance that keeps you in the side. Not the name, not your talent.

Additionally, Gambhir has also stated that KL Rahul should try to live in the present and not think too much about the things ahead.

He also doesn’t want Rahul to take undue amount of pressure against Sri Lanka. He says,

You can only control what you can control. You can’t control selectors, you can’t control what’s going to happen in the next series. You got three ODIs against Sri Lanka. If you play that, just be in the present. That’s all you can control. The moment you start to think about uncontrollable things, you’re putting undue pressure on yourself.

On the other hand, Rahul’s average in ODI cricket is just 44 and he continues to remain under the radar of the selectors in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
