Gautam Gambhir doesn’t want Kohli to be compared with Tendulkar

Gautam Gambhir

Former India opener and now cricket expert, Gautam Gambhir has given his opinions on Virat Kohli.

In the first ODI today at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, Kohli was at his supreme best as he hit his 45th ODI ton.

During his innings, Kohli was also handed two lives by the Sri Lankan fielders because of which he could score a century.

Kohli has now equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of hitting 20 tons in a country which is the joint-most by any batter.

According to Gambhir, scoring runs during Sachin’s era was more difficult than in today’s era.

Last month, Kohli ended his drought against Bangladesh when he scored his century.

Meanwhile, Gambhir has praised Kohli’s performance of today but now doesn’t want any comparisons between the two greats.

However, Gambhir says that during Sachin’s era, the fielding restrictions were rather different than today’s.

You can’t compare Virat with Sachin. In Sachin’s era there weren’t 5 players inside the 30-yard circle.

Gambhir opines that Sri Lanka’s bowling today was pretty ordinary

On the other hand, after the first innings, Gambhir also had his say on the way the bowlers of Sri Lanka bowled in today’s match.

He feels that it was a rather ordinary performance by the visitors against a quality batting side of India.

Gambhir was pretty disappointed by the performance given by Sri Lanka in today’s game.

It was pretty ordinary bowling. The top three of the Indian batting lineup have got lots and lots of runs behind them. Rohit and Kohli obviously, Shubman also has the ability to get so many runs in international cricket. And how easy it was for Rohit and Shubman to get runs today. That was a surprise for me. You have to be consistent and Sri Lanka’s bowling outing was very very disappointing for me.
