The Great Southern Stand will now be renamed SK Warne Stand in memory of Shane Warne.

Fans gathered around the statue of Shane Warne and put flowers, beers, cricket balls, pies and cigarettes as their condolences to the player.

Martin Pakula, the minister of Tourism and Sport in Victoria contacted Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews, MCC Trust chairman Steve Bracks and MCC CEO Stuart Fox regarding the same.

He also had a talk with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison have agreed to rename the stand in Warne’s honour.

There were talks going on about naming a stand after Warne before his sudden passing away.

The Junction Oval would have had a stand in the honour of Warne had he been alive today.

The Prime Minister has also contacted the Warne family and has suggested a state funeral in his honour.

But the family are yet to decide on the plan of action.
