Gujarat smashed the Royals at Rajasthan both with bat and ball

Hardik Pandya - Mohammed Shami - Gujarat Titans

Rajasthan Royals defeated Gujarat Titans in their first match at the Titans’ backyard. In the second encounter, Hardik Pandya got sweet revenge after defeating Sanju Samson’s team in Jaipur. The battle between two of the best teams in the IPL was not as tight as it was in the first match. However, this time, the last year champions won easily. They chased down 119 runs to win after losing 1 wicket in 13.5 overs.

Hardik’s Gujarat could not win against Delhi Capitals despite getting a low run target. They settled that regret in Jaipur against Rajasthan. Chasing a target of 119 runs to win, the defending champions won by 9 wickets. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill formed the highest run-scoring opening partnership for the team this season.

When Shubman got out with 36 off 35 balls, Gujarat were 71 in 9.4 overs. Hardik had alreast smelled victory. Coming down to bat at number three, the Gujarat skipper increased the pace of scoring runs by batting well. Wriddhiman also gave hope at the other end of the wicket. He remained unbeaten with 41 off 34 balls. 5 fours came from his bat. Hardik stormed the bat and scored 39 runs off 15 balls. He hit 3 fours and a six. Rajasthan bowlers had nothing special to do after the team’s batting failure.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan captain Sanju wanted to bat first and give Gujarat Titans a big target. But the failure of the batters poured water on his thoughts. Except Sanju, no one could stand on the pitch like that. Rajasthan started losing wickets continuously from the second over. Jos Buttler (8), Yasswi Jaiswal (11), Devdatta Paddikal (12) could not give the team confidence. Rajasthan’s plan to sent Ravichandran Ashwin (2) as a pinch hitter also did not succeed. None of the subsequent batters scored double-digit runs.

Sanju and Boult tried with the bat on behalf of Rajasthan, but the Afghan duo did the job for Gujarat

Sanju tried a bit to give a fight initially. 30 runs off 20 balls from his bat. He hit 3 fours and 1 six. In the end, Trent Boult too tried to put the team in a fighting position with aggressive batting. He scored 15 runs off 11 balls. However, none of those innings came in aid. Rajasthan got their innings ended on 118 runs in 17.5 overs.

Rashid Khan set fire on the crease with the ball this Friday. He took 3 wickets at the expense of just 14 runs. Noor Ahmed took 2 wickets with 25 runs. The Rajasthan batsmen could not handle the two Afghan spinners. Gujarat captain Hardik used them from both ends of the pitch. Hardik, Jos Little, Mohammed Shami took 1 wicket each.
