Cricketer turned commentator, Aakash Chopra, gave his verdict on the Gujarat Titans squad after the conclusion of the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

The defending champions, the Gujarat Titans, had a good day at the IPL 2023 mini-auction. They made lesser yet crucial buys. The management chose to not alter the winning combination much. However, the Titans did get Kane Williamson in a stellar deal at a base price.

Cricket pundit, Aakash Chopra spoke about the Gujarat Titans squad and gave his analysis. In a video uploaded on his Youtube channel, Chopra said that the team could have gone for a good Indian batter. But instead, they focused on strengthening their bowling unit.

“The team was okay earlier and is okay now as well,” Aakash Chopra on Gujarat Titans

Aakash Chopra feels that Gujarat Titans look unchanged overall after the IPL 2023 mini-auction. However, the thing that surprised Chopra the most was that the Titans did not target any substantial Indian batting options. He expected them to go after Manish Pandey at the auction, but the defending champions chose otherwise.

“The team was okay earlier and is okay now as well. There was no big Indian name available in batting. They didn’t go towards Manish Pandey. They would have probably got him if they had gone. I thought they will go after Mayank Agarwal. The team would have gotten stronger if they had gone after him,”

Aakash Chopra further added that Gujarat Titans strengthened their bowling unit as they want to play that kind of attacking cricket with bowlers. He concluded by saying that the team looks similar to that of last year, and the auction did not help them that much.

“You could have got two Indian openers but they didn’t go in that direction. They have strengthened their fast bowling, that’s the kind of cricket they want to play. Have they become a stronger team after the auctions? I will say they are almost the same as last year,”
