The government of Assam has decided to declare a half-day holiday for the people so that they can enjoy the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka.

The three-match ODI series kicks off at Assam whereby the team will then move to Kolkata and then to Thiruvananthapuram for the final game.

After having a victorious campaign in the T20I against the Islanders, India will look to gain the upper hand in tomorrow’s game.

Additionally, this is also the first time when India and Sri Lanka will face off each other after 2021 in an ODI series.

But, the excitement among the fans is to see all the veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammad Shami, and others returning to the squad.

All the senior players currently were on rest for the T20I series but are now going to play in the ODIs.

Reads the official statement from the Governor,

The governor of Assam is pleased to declare a half day local holiday on 10th January, 2023 within the Kamrup (Metro) district on the occasion of the ODI match between India and Sri Lanka to be held on 10/01/2023 at Barsapara ACA Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

India have a positive start in 2023

On the other hand, India started the New Year with a bang when they won the T20I series 2-1.

However, credit must be given to Sri Lanka as well for the way they played in this series. They put up a good fight in the two games.

During the first game, it looked like the Lankan Lions would take the game away. Had it not been for Axar Patel’s bowling, India would have lost the match.

In the second T20I, however, Sri Lanka bounced back and beat India by 16 runs to level the series 1-1.

Finally, in the third T20I, India came back stronger and Surya’s 112* from 51 balls was the highlight of the match.

Unfortunately, Sri Lanka couldn’t even come close to the target and fell for just 137 runs.

So, the ultimate goal for both teams tomorrow is pretty much similar- to win the ODI series. While India will look to continue their winning momentum, Sri Lanka will look to have a positive start to their year.
