Umesh Yadav - Kolkata Knight Riders - KKR

Indian veteran pacer, Umesh Yadav impressed everyone on Day 1 of the second test match against Bangladesh with a sensational performance.

Indian bowlers did a fantastic job on Day 1 of the Mirpur test. The men in blue restricted Bangladesh to a total of 227. Mominul Haque’s fighting 84 went in vain as the Ashwin cleaned him up. Moreover, Umesh Yadav and Ravi Ashwin took 4 wickets each. Further, Jaydev Unadkat grabbed the opportunity provided to him after 12 years, with both hands. He took 2 crucial wickets of Rahim and Zakir Hasan.

Umesh Yadav came in for a chat post the conclusion of the Bangladeshi innings and shed some light on the team’s plans. Umesh received enough assistance from the pitch surface, and he made excellent use of his reverse swing magic.

“We were trying to reverse,” Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav said that the team had the plan to try and get the ball to reverse as soon as possible. He further revealed that the pacers enjoyed some movement early on as the ball was seaming.

“The start is good for the pacers early on. Some balls are kicking off and some are seaming. I just looked to hit the right areas.

Umesh Yadav further added that they tried giving Ashwin a go, hoping that the surface would provide a turn. But surprisingly, it didn’t. Hence, the team made a strategy to get the ball to reverse and bowl wicket to wicket as much as possible. Umesh looked delighted while stating that the reverse swing plan worked and he managed to clip 4 wickets.

When Ashwin started, we thought it would turn. But it didn’t, the pace isn’t there for the spinners to turn. The dry grass has made the surface spongy. We were trying to reverse and bowled wicket to wicket. Happy to have gotten it,”
