India will begin its 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka. The tour will consist of 3 T20s and as many ODIs. The lineup is not yet announced. However, rumors have it that the majestic duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are likely to miss the T20 series. The skipper is yet to recover from a thumb injury he sustained against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, have reportedly requested for a rest.

Hardik Pandya led India in their series against New Zealand. Since the T20 World Cup 2022 debacle, rumors started doing the rounds that Hardik Pandya could be groomed to take over the white ball captaincy in the near future. Hence, the BCCI has decided to initiate the transition with the T20 format.

Hardik Pandya to lead the T20 side, Rohit-Virat to focus on ODIs

According to previous reports, the BCCI wants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to focus on one-day internationals in preparation for the 2023 World Cup. Hence, the duo is likely to sit out for the T20 series and return for the ODI series.

Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja, who missed out on the T20 World Cup, is likely to make a return. Further, the selection committee might experiment a little by giving young Yash Dhull a maiden call-up. However, those are just speculations as of now.

The selection committee led by Chetan Sharma might just be on its last lap, as the committee is all set to get fired in the coming year. BCCI has already started the hunt for a new panel. A BCCI official spoke to PTI. He stated that the selection panel is keeping a close eye on the Indian domestic circuit to scout players for the Sri Lanka series.

“Chetan and his committee are still watching domestic cricket. They watched the full Vijay Hazare Trophy and also the first two rounds of Ranji Trophy. Debasish Mohanty was present at Eden Gardens to watch Bengal vs Himachal Pradesh. Basically, they got a two-month extension till December 25,”

The BCCI is likely to announce the squad within the next day.
