Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri is in awe of the man of the hour, Suryakumar Yadav. Speaking about his batting style, Shastri compared Surya’s form to that of AB De Villiers.

Suryakumar Yadav is the most successful T20 batter of the year 2022. Scoring a huge number of runs seems like a cakewalk for him. He has already broken way too many records, having made his debut just a year ago. Moreover, Suryakumar’s stroke-playing skills have sent the fans and critics into a frenzy. People have already termed the batter a modern-day legend in just a short while.

The latest to join his fan club is former Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri. While speaking to Amazon Prime Video in the post-match session of the second ODI match against New Zealand, Shastri heaped praise on the batter.

“He is devastating,” Ravi Shastri terms Suraykumar the best player in the world

In the post-match analysis after the second ODI between India and New Zealand, Ravi Shastri shared his views on the Mumbai batter. He said that Surya is one of the best batters in the world at the moment. Moreover, he compared Surya’s hitting ability to that of AB De Villiers.

“He is one of the best players in the world if not the best T20 player. He has got the all-round game and he is devastating. On his day, if he bats 30-40 balls, he’ll win you the match because he scores at that pace and he demoralizes the opposition with the kind of shots he plays. He is much like AB de Villiers at his best. When AB played one of those special innings, it deflated the opposition and Surya can do just that.”

Ravi Shastri further went on to say that Surya is very much capable of playing with the same kind of approach in the T20s as well. He said that Suryakumar might fail in one odd inning, but if he gets himself comfortable, he can wreak havoc on the opposition.

“If you look at the numbers and law of averages, he is bound to have an innings like that. But if he gets past the 15-20-run mark, he makes it count as he showed in some of his earlier innings. So, he backs his ability and attacking instincts. So, when you have those kinds of instincts, every odd inning, he is bound to fail. But when it comes off, it’s spectacular.”
