Former Indian fast bowler, Ashish Nehra is highly impressed with India’s new speed gun, Umran Malik. He termed Malik as the shining light of India’s bowling unit.
India might have lost the ODI series against New Zealand, but the team gained a promising youngster in the form of Umran Malik. Malik was among the few positives for India in the white-ball series. The Jammu Express clinched 2 crucial wickets on his ODI debut. Moreover, he looked in control at the start of the inning. Even though he leaked a few runs at the death, the figures were highly impressive for a debutant.
Umran Malik is receiving praise from all around the world. Indian fans are fascinated by the pacer’s extreme speed and improved control over lines and lengths. Ashish Nehra is the latest addition to his fan club. He said that Umran Malik is the future of Indian cricket.
“He is not only looking to play T20 cricket,” Nehra keen on seeing Umran Malik playing the longer format
Ashish Nehra termed Umran Malik as India’s shining light in the New Zealand series. He said that people are excited to see Malik because of his sheer pace. He further went on to say that he has seen Umran bowl more than 4 overs at a constant high speed. Hence, Nehra believes that Umran Malik is a longer-format player.
“There is no doubt that he is one of the shining lights of not only this tour but whenever he has played before. Everybody is excited about him and the main reason is his pace. You said that he is not someone who is only looking to bowl 4 overs. He has started his career with T20 cricket but I have seen him bowl 16-18 and 20 overs with rapid pace. Umran is young, he is quick. He is not someone who will hold back or bowl only 80-85 percent. Malik is not someone only looking to play T20 cricket which is a great thing in today’s day and age,”
“All eyes will be on him in near future,” Ashish Nehra
Nehra further added that in the age of T20, Umran Malik is a player who wants to play the longer format, which is a rare scenario. Moreover, he added that selectors need to be careful with Malik and use his cautiously.
“We have seen how T20 cricket has evolved. Majority of the players are keener to play T20 cricket first and that way he is different. The more you play the better he will get. He has shown good control with the old ball and it will be interesting to see how he bowls with the new ball, how the selectors use him and how the management wants him to be used. There is no doubt about it that all eyes will be on him in near future,”
