ICC announce Test team of the year 2022; Pant the only Indian to feature

International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the test team of the year 2022. Ben Stokes is the captain of the side with Rishabh Pant being the wicketkeeper. Pant is the only Indian to feature in the list.

Opening the innings is Australian Usman Khawaja and Windies skipper Kraigg Braithwaite. Khawaja averaged 67.50 in the year scoring 1080 runs. His form tapered off in the later part of the year but scored heavily in the initial part of the year. Braithwaite has been rock solid for the West Indies team. He can wear out bowlers playing with lots of patience. Braithwaite averaged 62.45 scoring 687 runs in 14 innings. 

Middle Order | ICC Test Team 2022

Australian batter Marnus Labuschange has been a class apart this year scoring runs for fun. Marnus scored 967 runs in total with an average of 56.29.

Babar Azam and Johny Bairstow are slotted at numbers 4 and 5 respectively. The Pakistan skipper was in breathtaking form scoring over 1000 runs in the calendar year. Babar scored 1184 runs at an average of 69.94 scoring four hundreds against 4 different oppositions. Bairstow had a breakthrough year with bat and he blossomed under the “BazBall era. He had a successive scores of 136, 162, 71*, 106, and 114* in the calendar year against New Zealand and India. 

Ben Stokes is to play at number 6 in the playing 11. Stokes scored 870 runs in the year at an average of 36.25 with bat and picked up 26 wickets in 2022. Ben Stokes, the captain, transformed the England side helping them 9 matches. 

Rishabh Pant is the wicketkeeper batter in the side slotted at number 7. Pant was destructive with the bat as he scored 680 runs at a strike rate of 90.90 in 2022 with six stumpings and 23 catches. 

Bowlers | ICC Test Team 2022

Pat Cummins picked up 36 wickets at an average of just 21.83. He bowled exceedingly well on dead pitches in Pakistan to help Australia win the series. 

Kagiso Rabada has been the hero for South Africa since his debut. Rabada took 47 wickets at an average of 22.25. Rabada exceeded not just in South Africa but also New Zealand, England, and Australia. 

Nathon Lyon bowled a lot of overs in 2022. Lyon took 47 wickets in 11 tests at an average of 29.06. He was the joint wicket-taker in the year along with Kagiso Rabada. 

Ageless Anderson is the oldest member to feature in the playing 11. The 40-year-old took 36 wickets in 9 tests miserly giving runs at an economy of 2.42. The Englishman averaged just 19.8 in 2022.
