ICC names four nominees for ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year

Cricket’s international body, the ICC has nominated four women players for the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.

These names include India’s Smriti Mandhana, Pakistan’s Nida Dar, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, and Australia’s Tahlia McGrath.

Mandhana has been a standout performer for India this year with the bat.

She is also the best batter across all three formats for India and is leading the scoring charts in T20I cricket in 2022.

Overall, Mandhana has scored 594 runs in 21 matches with an average of 33.00 and a strike rate of 133.48.

Additionally, she also has five T20I half-centuries this year and her recent knock of 79 runs against Australia has been the best so far.

During the second T20I against Australia, Mandhana made 79 runs from just 49 balls that included nine fours and four sixes.

India were able to level the score of Australia and then in the super over, she smashed 13 runs to hand Australia women their first T20I defeat of 2022.

Other women contenders for the trophy

There are three more names that can win the coveted trophy and are very worthy contenders.

The first of these is Tahlia McGrath from Australia. This year, she has enjoyed her time in T20I cricket for her country.

In just 11 T20Is, she has scored 435 runs with a great average of 62.14 and a strike rate of 145.00 along with four half-centuries.

Moreover, in January this year, she smashed a score of 91* from 49 balls during the home series against England women.

Along with this knock, McGrath also took three wickets in the same match in the first T20I.

The other name that is hot on this list is that of Kiwi skipper Sophie Devine. She has been top-notch for New Zealand this year with both bat and ball.

In 14 matches, Devine has scored 389 runs with an average of 29.92 and a strike rate of 112.42.

Additionally, she has also scored 500+ runs in ODI cricket this year and is ranked second in the current ICC T20I All-Rounder’s charts.

And finally, we have the name of Pakistan’s Nida Dar who is a bowling all-rounder for her nation.

This year, Dar played a match-winning knock in the Women’s Asia Cup against India.

Dar smashed 56* from 37 balls and also took two wickets that gave Pakistan its first-ever victory over India.

In 2022, she is also the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in T20Is with 396 runs from 13 matches.

Dar has an average of 56.57 and a strike rate of 122.60. She is also the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan in T20Is this year.

She has scalped 15 wickets from 14 matches with an average of 18.33 and an economy rate of 5.55.
