India vs West Indies 3rd T20

India won the 3rd and final T20I against the West Indies on Sunday by 17 runs.

It was a good performance by both batsmen and bowlers from the Indian side.

From the batting unit, it was once again the pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer who played brilliantly and took India’s score to 184/5.

In reply, West Indies tottered right from the start as Deepak Chahar quickly dismissed the openers before suffering a hamstring pull. Venkatesh Iyer completed his over.

Venkatesh Iyer too was good with the ball as he took 2 wickets. Other bowlers who shined with the ball were Shardul Thakur and Harshal Patel who took 2 and 3 wickets respectively.

Nicholas Pooran kept his fine form going on from the last 2 matches as he scored 61 but failed to take his side home.

Romario Shepherd and Rovman Powell too tried to snatch victory away from the hands of India but bowlers did a fantastic job in the end.

West Indies, in the end, finished off with 167/9 in their 20 overs.

Kieron Pollard, the West Indies skipper said that they had the game in their hands till the 15th over but as soon as they gave away 85 runs in the last 5 overs, the game had slipped away from their hands. Also mentioned that they started their innings well but could not carry it forward. Also said that there are a lot of positives to take away from this tour. Was happy with the performances of Nicholas Pooran and the other youngsters.

Rohit Sharma, India captain said he was happy with the performance of his young Indian team. Mentioned that many of the players were missing from the team and they would have given added advantage. He appreciated both his batsmen and bowlers. Mentioned that they are preparing well for the ICC T20 World Cup and also mentioned that they are not looking at any opposition, just trying to play well and taking it one series at a time. Also said that Sri Lanka will be a different challenge altogether.

Next Match

India will now begin a fresh home assignment which is Sri Lanka from the 24th of February starting with the T20I series at Lucknow.

West Indies, meanwhile, will be playing a home assignment against England in which they have a 3-match Test series starting from the 8th of March.
