India Australia, probable finalists of WTC- a myth or reality?

ICC World Test Championship

After the first test in Nagpur, India defeated Australia in the second test in Delhi. Rohit Sharma’s team won by 6 wickets on Sunday. India took a 2-0 lead in the series. With the win, India improved their position in the points table of the World Test Championship. On the other hand, Australia is in the limelight this time.

The winning percentage of India increased to 64.06 after the win against Australia in the second Test. However, their place in the final of the World Test is still not certain. If the results of the remaining two Tests go against India, Sri Lanka can overtake them. However, India’s victory knocked South Africa out of the race for the finals. They can now reach a maximum of 55 percent. India will not go below South Africa even if they lose the remaining two Tests.

Unlike India, Australia are the first to reach the World Test final. Their place is also assured. In order to go to the final, they have to avoid losing 0-4 against India. But even if they lose 0-4, they can go to the final in a way. In that case, New Zealand should not lose 0-2 against Sri Lanka.

According to ICC calculations, there is an 88.9 percent chance of a World Test final between Australia and India. The probability of Australia vs Sri Lanka is 8.3 percent and the probability of India vs Sri Lanka is 2.8 percent.
