India give Sri Lanka a big defeat of an innings and 222 runs in the first Test

India vs Sri Lanka

It was a Ravindra Jadeja show all over Mohali as India won the first Test match by a huge margin against Sri Lanka and went up 1-0 in the series.

Rockstar Jadeja starred in India’s first innings with the bat and scored an unbeaten 175 to take the team’s total to 574/8 after which Rohit Sharma declared the innings.

He also took a fifer in Sri Lanka’s first innings and 4 wickets in the visitors’ follow-on innings.

On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin too claimed an achievement for himself in Test cricket as he went past Kapil Dev to the second spot in India’s all-time list of highest wicket-takers in Test matches.

Jadeja also shared 3- 100-run partnerships with Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin and Mohammed Shami that powered India to such a huge total.

Sri Lanka on the other hand were not as good with the bat in both of their innings.

In the first innings, Pathum Nissanka was the highest scorer for the visitors with 61 not out.

Sri Lankan batters could not manage to convert their starts into triple digits.

Jadeja and Ashwin shared the bulk of the wickets while the pacers Bumrah and Shami chipped in between.

Sri Lanka conceded a 400-run lead in the first innings.

They added only 4 runs to their second innings score and were all out for 178.
