Former India head coach, John Wright made a surprise visit to Team India’s hotel where he met up with his former wards.

VVS Laxman, Zaheer Khan, Sairaj Bahutule, and Mohammad Kaif all shared hearty conversations, pulled Wright’s leg, and talked of the old days.

Kaif took to his Twitter handle to share the happy reunion and wrote a caption that reads,

Look who we met in New Zealand. Warm, wise and humble Mr John Wright. We recalled old days, shared life updates and pulled his leg. Coach time to sell your 20-year-old car now.

Ward met all his former wards who had bloomed under his coaching. Now, all of them are in different capacities and not playing for India anymore.

While Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Kaif have become media experts, VVS Laxman and Sairaj Bahutule have followed in the footsteps of Wright and become coaches.

It should also be mentioned here that Wright was India’s first foreign coach who took over from Kapil Dev in 2000 and remained coach till 2005.

India had a string of successes under Wright as they reached the final of the 2003 50-over World Cup.

Moreover, India also defeated Australia in an epic Test series at home in 2001.

Additionally, India also won the ODI and Test series in Pakistan in 2003-04.

In the same year, they also drew a Test series away in Australia.

Wright during his coaching days also developed a great working relationship with then-skipper Sourav Ganguly.
