As the 15th edition of the IPL is all set to take place on March 26th, BCCI is now considering broadcasting the marquee event on even more media channels this year.

The tender for the same is yet to be released by the board as told by one media house source.

BCCI is probably influenced by the way the EPL sold its broadcasting rights to Sky Sports, BBC Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BT Sports.

Thus, the board in generating even more followers has decided to give the thought some consideration.

The major sports broadcaster for the IPL has always been Star Sports. When it was launched as an experiment in India way back in 2008, it used to come on Sony Max. This went on for 2 seasons after which Star Sports took the rights to broadcast the event every year.

If the deal gets materialized, then the other major players who will come over for broadcasting rights are Sony, Reliance and Amazon.

The prize money for this year’s IPL has also been increased. The winning team will receive 20 crore rupees while the runners-up will receive 13 crore rupees.

Other prizes too will be upgraded from this season. According to rumours, the first match of the IPL will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The schedule will be released in due course of time by the IPL Governing Council.
