IPL 2022: Post Match Analysis: Punjab Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

It was a dead contest yesterday in which Punjab Kings got the better of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Starting with the toss, Bhuvneshwar Kumar called it right and decided to bat first.

The last match’s hero, Priyam Garg was out quickly this time.

Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi built up a partnership for some time.

Aiden Markram, Romario Shepherd and Washington Sundar were the others who gave some impetus to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings.

SRH could manage only 157/8 in their 20 overs.

Punjab Kings needed 158 to notch up two points for themselves and sign off the season with a win.

Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan put up a great start for PBKS.

Shahrukh Khan too played and made 19 from 10 balls.

Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma finished things off for Punjab Kings as they sealed the win by 5 wickets and 29 balls to spare.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper, said that becoming a captain was a great feeling but it could have been better if they had won. Mentioned that they were a few runs short but could have defended the total with good fielding. Added that the first half of the game was good but they didn’t do well in the second half and that’s where they need to work and come back stronger next season. Was happy with the likes of Umran Malik, Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma. Further mentioned that Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran have been good with the bat in the middle overs. Concluded by saying that he enjoyed this season of the IPL and he will keep playing till he feels 100%

Mayank Agarwal, Punjab Kings captain, said that he will experience sore ribs but hoped that it is not broken. Was happy with the way his team played throughout the season. Applauded the performances of Arshdeep, Dhawan and Bairstow. Mentioned that they can do better next season with the brand of cricket that they have played this season. Added that they could not muster back-to-back wins and lost quite too many wickets this season. Concluded by saying that they just wanted to enjoy the game and notch up the final two points for themselves.
