Former India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar in an interview with SportsTak opined that Royal Challengers Bangalore should appoint Glenn Maxwell as the next skipper of the franchise.

Earlier, Virat Kohli was relieved of his captaincy duties as RCB lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the Playoffs.

They finished 3rd last season but could not go any further.

The spot for captaincy is now vacant and RCB have yet to decide the next skipper.

While Punjab Kings have decided to make Shikhar Dhawan the captain, RCB were contemplating making Faf du Plessis the next captain.

Faf has leadership skills and has led South Africa in the past.

Gavaskar however, feels that Maxwell is more capable as he has good leadership skills and is already captaining a franchise in the Big Bash League, the Melbourne Stars.

RCB retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the auctions.

They have also purchased Chennai Super Kings’ Faf du Plessis and Josh Hazelwood.

Gavaskar also said that Maxwell still has a lot of years left in him to play cricket.
