Former India pacer, Irfan Pathan has recently opined that Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly should become the next head coach.

In the ongoing season of the IPL, Delhi Capitals has fared rather badly and are already out of the race for the Playoffs.

Therefore, some news is doing the rounds that DC might sack head coach Ricky Ponting from his role and install someone else.

According to Irfan, Ganguly can fit the role perfectly as he has a great knowledge of the psychology of Indian players.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals is sitting in the 9th position after winning five games from 13 and have 10 points and an NRR of -0.572.

While they lost their first five games in the season under David Warner’s captaincy, DC made a solid comeback when they won their next four games from five.

Says Irfan on Ganguly,

Sourav Ganguly’s presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role.

Delhi Capitals upstage Punjab Kings; now targeting Chennai Super Kings

Meanwhile, in yesterday’s game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, it was the latter who flourished and won the game by 15 runs.

While Prithvi Shaw hit his first century of the IPL 2023, Rilee Rossouw played a handy knock of 82 runs from 37 balls.

In the end, DC ended up with a score of 213/2 on the board and asked Punjab to chase down 214.

For Punjab, it was Atharva Taide and Liam Livingstone who took their team’s score very close to DC, but the constant loss of wickets hurt their run-chase.

Now, Delhi Capitals will look to spoil Chennai Super Kings’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs in their last league game.
