BCCI announced its squad for the white ball series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The selection panel announced two different squads for the T20 and ODI series. The senior members will be sitting out for the T20 series and will return for the ODIs.

In a major overhaul, Hardik Pandya has been named the skipper of the team for the T20 series. Moreover, the man of the hour, Suryakumar Yadav, will be Hardik’s deputy for the series. As a matter of fact, Surya made his national debut just a year ago. He rose through the ranks and made his way right to the top with his performances. Hence, as a reward, he is named vice-captain for the T20 series.

“It’s kind of a reward to me,” Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav spoke for the first time since the announcement of the squad. He said that it feels like a dream to him to be the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team. However, Suryakumar Yadav feels that the vice-captaincy is just a reward for his performances. Furthermore, Suryakumar Yadav went on to say that he is thrilled and looking forward to the challenge.

“It was not expected. I can only say it’s kind of a reward to me for the way I played this year. It feels good and I’m really looking forward to it. I came to know from my dad who is always active on social media. He forwarded me the list and also sent me a short message – ‘not to take any pressure and enjoy your batting’. For a moment, I closed my eyes and asked myself, ‘is this a dream?’ It’s a great feeling,”

Suryakumar Yadav is enjoying a dream run at the moment. He finished this year with over 1,000 runs in the T20 format. Moreover, Surya also received nomination for the ICC T20 cricketer of the year 2022.
