Ishan Kishan joins a new record list as India benches him for first ODI

Ishan Kishan

India opener, Ishan Kishan has joined a new list of players even after being benched by the team management for today’s ODI.

Kishan is now in an exclusive list of players who have scored big in ODI cricket but were dropped from the team after that.

This list also features the names of Brad Hodge and Clayton Lambert among many others.

Even during the pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma chose Gill over Kishan to be his opening partner in the first ODI.

On the other hand, former cricketers like Aakash Chopra and Mohammad Kaif also expressed their disappointment on India not picking Kishan in the starting XI of the first ODI.

India decided to hand Gill an extended run in the ODIs due to his excellent performances in 2022.

India off to a great start in the ODI series; beat Sri Lanka by 67 runs

Meanwhile, India made merry at Guwahati today where they piled up carnage on the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Fifties from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill along with a century from Virat Kohli ensured that India reached a target of 373 runs.

Sri Lanka did manage to reach the target but fell short by 67 runs as they made only 306/8 in their 50 overs.

The next ODI between the two sides is day after tomorrow at Kolkata where India will look to get a clean sweep over the Lankan Lions.

It is also Virat Kohli’s consecutive century in ODI cricket as he notched up a ton against Bangladesh just last month.

Gill and Sharma shared a great partnership of 143 runs for the first wicket and put India in the driver’s seat right from the start.

Because of this masterclass in batting by India’s top order, they managed to put up a well-defendable target for Sri Lanka to chase.

There were some useful contributions from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul as well.
